RS Supports Tokai University in the World Class Solar Car Race

While constantly striving to provide high quality products and service to engineers in the manufacturing industry. RS has also been actively involved in activities which help to develop future engineers. RS supported a few of the universities programmes for engineering students. In July, RS employees held fun-filled electronic craft workshop for elementary school children to nurture and excite them about the world of engineering

In addition, RS supported the Tokai University Solar Car Team who participated in the The World Solar Challenge - a world-class solar car race that will be held in Australia this year. RS provided parts which were used in the solar-powered car. This is RS' way of contributing to the development of future engineers. With the above, RS employees are proud to be able to play a part in contributing to the society by supporting this global initiative to conserve and protect our global environment.

RS sponsored Tokai University team wins the world's largest solar car race in Australia for the 2nd time in a row.

Tokai University solar car is the first car to cross the finish line in the 3,000km-journey "The World Solar Challenge" solar car race!

Tokai university solar car team has won the World Solar Challenge 2011 in Australia which was held from Oct 16th to 23th.This is their second successive victory at the World Solar Challenge (WSC) . The WSC solar car race competition starts from Darwin in the north of Australia and travels down to Adelaide in the south covering a total distance of 3,021km. Despite being in the fifth place in the qualifying round, the Tokai Challenger team took the lead from start and increased its leading position throughout the race. Tokai Challenger ran smoothly without any trouble to finally reach the finish line 32 hours and 45 minutes later in Adelaide, on October 20, 2011 at around 1PM (local time) .

Tokai University solar car team used HIT solar cells which has the world’s highest level of energy conversion rate. This was supported with high-capacity lithium-ion batteries provided by Panasonic. Toray carbon fiber materials of super lightweight were supplied for the body which reduced the vehicle weight to 140kg.

Professor Hideki Kimura, who is a master of the solar car world, said that “ We have won the World Solar Challenge due to our focus on Japanese technology . I would like to acknowledge all the sponsors, academics and students for supporting the team"

The World Solar Challenge Tokai University Solar Car Team  qualifies for world-class solar car race

The Tokai University Solar Car Team, led by Professor Hideki Kimura, consists of 19 members. Most of them are Electronics Engineering students from the Tokai University. Kenjiro Shiozuka, the first Japanese driver to clinch the overall victory in the Dakar Rally that was held in Paris, will be joining the Tokai University Solar Car Team in the The World Solar Challenge. The team is now spending hours working together to research on how to improve the efficiency of their solar-powered car.

The The World Solar Challenge will span from Darwin to Adelaide with a total distance of approximately 3,000km.
